Billy "Pumpkinhead" Harkowsky The man, the myth, the guy with the biggest head on the block! Billy's musical background started at the age of 8 by playing the trumpet with the school band, but by the time he was 9, he was brave enough (and strong enough) to play the alto saxophone, the horn of his choice. Now, it wasn't until the "ripe" old age of 12 that his Momma forced him to learn the guitar.....Thanks, Momma! Within a year he broke open his piggy-bank & bought his first "real" guitar, a 1979 Ibanez Iceman (Bang 'Yer Head, Dude!) & joined Jersey City's youngest rock band, "Desire". After many years, many guitars and through many bands, something was still missing..... he longed to get his songs out into the world. In 1990, he got his recording feet wet on a Fostex 8-track reel-to-reel machine. This is where he learned the art of being incredibly selective with the elements of a production, that every instrument should serve its purpose and have its role in a song. After many bounce-downs he ventured into the world of DAW recording.... and the liberating freedom of unlimited tracks! In the digital realm, he amassed a serious collection of plugins & virtual instrument sound libraries to complement his impressive guitar collection. Blending the digital with the organic instruments, he gave himself the best of both worlds & the flexibility to get his songs to come out of his speakers the way he heard them in his head. But why stop with his own music.... why not record other people's music, too?!? Enter, Pumpkinhead Studios! |
